Imported coal, having high Cr VI content, is used in the coke oven plant.The Cr VI content is almost 14ppm and shall be in the generated ash.It is not possible to recover this chromium since the ash quantity is huge and such removal is also very expensive.
Does anybody have any remedial solution for the Cr6 in the ash apart from its disposal as a hazardous material?

Removal of heavy metal from ash or other contaminants having some organic content is possible by adopting vermicomposting process.
Uptake of heavy metals in earthworm body has been proved and lot of research has been done on this part. 14ppm is not a big concern but availability of space to carry out vermicomposting is a concern.

Dear Dr Katoley,
Please check whether Cr(VI) persists in ash. At the high temperature during burning and in presence CO in the initial phase of burning, Cr(VI) is likely to be reduced and oxide fused in to the ash mass. This can be confirmed by leaching ash with dilute sulfuric acid.
If Cr(VI) persists, we have to search for an appropriate method to reduce Cr(VI).
