Environmentalists are being killed in record numbers across the world

Not to scare environment professionals, but we need to understand the dynamics of environmental activism and be prepared as a manager and professionals in environment sector.

Forestry is another area, especially where the prime revenue of nations depend on forestry.

However, as I see, it is the activists rather than professionals, who bear the brunt. I have seen for myself how a friend Dr Glen Barry (Ecological Internet), has been fighting the system and local governments, often single-handedly, whether in the U.S. or Indonesian islands.

Environmental activism comes in all forms  and each of these groups have their own roles to play - activists / eco-warriors, researchers and think-tank advocates - who bridge the gap between the grassroots / academia and policy making. However, it is the activists working along non-Gandhian principles who are beaten up morally - by politicians and others with vested interests.

Stats may show up a handful of environmentalists being killed (bare figures!) - but they do not reveal how careers, personal lives and decades of pro-active work is being killed - which is more potent dampeners.

So its hat's off to those brave souls who take up causes and do not give up till they achieve their goal.

Another area - cell phone sector, as installation of cell phone towers has adverse impact on birds and human life. But the Cell phone companies have too much of political, muscle and money power, and so far have managed to overcome environmental groups coming forward to demand for stringent regulations for installations of these cell phone towers.

Anyone clashes with vested interest faces problem and often murdered...
