Green belt Development in industry

what should be the green belt area in a paint/chemical industry ?. What is the concept of green belt? can garden with grasses and hedge and edge be considered as green belt or not? what is the legal requirements?

As per MOEF guidelines and norms related green belt of industries, 33% of area of project area should be greenbelt (which includes main plant,storage area, administrative blocks, finished product areas and also colony if any). Green belt is belt of plant communities (mainly tree of various height)  around the plant boundary to contain the emission from project. Hedges ornamental plants, lawns are  part of greenery of the project area and not part of greenbelt area of 33%. These are common guidelines for all industries.In this connection you can refer a book on greenbelt from CPCB for list plant species to be planted in various zones in India

As per National Environment Policy for Green Belt,1000 Nos. of trees/acres of land. For Development of Green-belt,there is a guidelines issued by CPCB for development of Green-belt.Also 100 % agree with

 Dr.MVRN Acharyulu.

Plant species to be selected preferably, locally available sustainable to prevailing local environment conditions, fast growing, which don't require watering and not only resist water stress but also covers the ground quickly/thick canopy and have wider soil adaptability. species density will be 2000 to 2500 Nos/ha will be predominantly preferred. As rightly mentioned by DR MVRN, you can refer CPCB publications/guidelines for further clarity. Also, you can see the google image of typical chemical industry at Babrala having full fledged Greenbelt around the plant boundary. co-ordinate is 28 degree 17' 26" N/ 78degree 25' 1.68" E.

Is there any guideline for emphasizing the selection of native species? Mostly, the fast growing species consists of exotic tree species which adds nothing to maintain the ecology and biodiversity of the area. The common preference is for Glyrisidia and Casia sp. They may grow fast, but are ecological filth. In fact, leaving the area to restore naturally might be a better option rather then planting these exotic species and destroying the ecosystem. These species further invade the adjoining area and damage the existing biodiversity. Even many of these species, are potentially toxic and allergic to human health.

Further, in native species, neem is also preferred for its fast growing capability. However, monoculture of neem is also not a good option. Is there any guidelines for the number of species  or species richness to be maintained while planting trees as greenbelt or compensatory afforestation? Is there any r-selected and k-selected species combination maintained?

Sir, just wanted to know, can we considered patch of Mangroves(@ 60 acer)in green belt area of industry?and, if no enough space is available, can this belt be developed offsite(far from project, not surrounded by)?will moEF consider it?
