Paryavaran.com-Gateway to Indian Environment Market

Dear All,

I need your help in understanding the best available book in the market on Waste water technologies. I am searching for a book which can give me ideas on the selection of waste water technologies for any type of waste water. (I understand, suggesting best available waste water technology is the matter of experience and technical expertise of the person who is suggesting it).

Background:

1)      I need a book which can help me to evaluate best available waste water treatment technologies in the market.  (Please note that, I am not a water professional but have studies ‘waste water treatment’ during my post graduation (M.Sc Environment Management. Hence I need little bit self explanatory book).

2)      Water sector is changing drastically. New technologies are coming up on each year. In such case if the book would be based on new technologies, it will help me a lot.

One of friend has suggested a book - ‘Wastewater Engineering: Treatment and Reuse’, by Metcalf Eddy. I need your expert onion and suggestions if anything new in the market. One more thing, I found the edition of this book is quite old (2002) on Flipkart. Is their new version is available in the market?

Thanks!

Shailesh even I would suggest Metcalf Eddy... kind of Bible for Wastewater as far as I have heard.....Its always good to start with a book which could clear your concept and give you good base. although even I have not gone through in detail...... further guys with Wastewater background could advise us more appropriately...

Even people in my contact suggested the same book. I am little confused with the edition of this book. It is available on flipkart but of 2002 edition. I need information on it's new/latest editions (If any).

Thanks a lot Sir!

Hi

I would also prefer to suggest Metcalf & Eddy but its focus more on Sewage treatment so If u r looking for waste water treatment (Sewage) then Metcalf Eddy is good.

Also go through Sawyer and Macrty on Environmental Chemistry ,it gives you basic fundamental chemistry solution of waste water parameter.

In my knowledge there is no particular books on Industrial W/w treatment and technology. u will find nos. of book on sewage treatment and technology.

Lsit of Books for W/w

waste water by Metcalf Eddy

Waste water treatment by Quasim

Environmnetal Chemistry by Sawyer and Macarty

Waste water treatment by Rhmelo

For Sewage treatment u can also go with CPHEE Manual its Free and available on Site

Thanks for information

metcalf Eddy wast water engineering book is ultimate book .

Dear Shailesh,

There are a lot of books available on Wastewater Technologies. However, if you are looking for a simple book, first of all, you will need to understand the basic concepts behind WW treatment techniques, and the parameters used. Therefore, I recommend that you should first go through the book Environmental Chemistry by Sawyer, McCarty and Perkin. It is the bible of environmental chemistry. After understanding these concepts, you can refer metcalf if you want, but I would recommend a book on Wastewater treatment technologies by Ronald Droste, as it is more easier to understand.

If you need any more help, let me know.

my details are as below.

Dear All

I am totally agree that for understanding basics of wastewater treatment and chemical reactions going on in treatment, Metcalf & Eddy and Sawer-McCarty are really bible for us. I am suggesting another book which is good for wastewater treatment technologies and that is Handbook of water and wastewater treatment technologies by Nicholas cheremisinoff.

Dear All,

Thanks a lot for this valuable information. This discussion is really informative to me. @Darshana Patel: I've searched for 'Handbook of water and wastewater treatment technologies by Nicholas cheremisinoff' and found really aligned with the requirement but it is very costly (Around Rs. 8909 in India). In other case ‘Wastewater Engineering: Treatment and Reuse’, by Metcalf Eddy costs Rs. 760 in India. I understand price should not be the key factor in selection of good book but in my case I would select the other one. I am sure, I'll definitely buy first one -'Handbook of water and wastewater treatment technologies by Nicholas cheremisinoff' in near future as per the requirement.

Other books like Environmental Chemistry by Sawyer, McCarty and Perkin (suggested by Mr. Sagar Shreeram Apte) and Waste water treatment by Rhmelo (suggested by Mr. Joshi) will be my next buy!

Thanks a lot again!

Dear friend, Metcalf & Eddy Book is also available on the websites namely ebooksclub.org in PDF form 4th edition.

Dear Shailash,

I am not a waste water expert, but would lke to respond to your question. Based on my experience through all these years i uunderstood that there are books which are good not to say that they are bad books also, but you can get information from all the books whether its an indian author or a very experienced author. however every point from all the books is equally important. The only thing we need to know is to understand the basics of it, scope of our requirement and use the appropriate technology which hold good at the given situation. Sometime you need to make a model from the guidance taking from the available literature and models which is compatible to your needs. As i am not an expert of waste water i just expressed my thought  as per my experience.

Raghava

Thanks for your expressions. Even I've the similar thought.
