The presentation has covered almost all the major issues related to climate change and carbon credits.CDM projects are considered as one of the major tools for mitigating GHG emissions and their role in climate change. No doubt India has immense potential in terms of generating CER and successful implementation of these projects would help in achieving India's post Copenhagen voluntary emission reduction decision.
How ever to achieve this more awareness about the economic and environmental benefits of these projects is needed which would enhance willingness of industries in particular and other stakeholders to go for it.Though initiatives like the annual conference and B2B meet between buyers and sellers "Carbon Bazaar" initiated by MoEF is already there (probably restricted to bigger players only) but government should come up with other campaign focusing on the beneficial prospects, eligibility and procedures for the CDM projects.
All entrepreneurs engaged in projects which has the potential of earning CERs from across the country including the rural India needs to be brought on a common platform where they can actually get to know about how they can benefit from the CDM projects. A detail survey needs to be carried out to find the possible projects which can be transformed into CDM in all parts of the country especially in the rural set ups as they cannot be neglected.
But future of these projects seems to lie on the decisions and agreements brought into force post Kyoto (i.e post 2012). At present it seems to be a efficient mitigating tool for climate change, but we need to be cautious about its future as still post Kyoto picture is not clear and the dilemma and fear persists. Is it truly a mitigation mechanism or a method adopted by the Developed countries to run away from their responsibilities and liabilities of cutting down emissions?
