India’s First CDM PoA (Bachat Lamp Yojana) registered April 29, 2010

The Bachat Lamp Yojana (BLY) conceived as CDM Programme of Activity (PoA)
for mass distribution of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) in India has been
registered successfully by the CDM-Executive Board on 29 April 2010. This is the
first PoA to be registered from India and third in the World. The Programme has
been developed to promote energy efficient lighting in India. State level
Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) that join this programme would
distribute high quality CFLs at about Rs. 15 per piece to their consumers and in
return take back a working incandescent lamp (ICL).
At present the share of incandescent lamps (ICL) lighting in both residential and
commercial sector put together is nearly 80% in India. The penetration of CFLs
in households has been low on account of the high price of the CFLs, which is
generally 8 to10 times the cost of incandescent bulbs.
The Programme would not only help the reduction of peak load in the country
but also lead to a potential reduction of over 6,000 MW in electricity demand.

But make sure that CFLs are not used in rooms where infant babys look after-ed since it is suspected to cause permanent eye defects and impaired vision.

Its really good for energy conserve but we have to think, search and analyze about disposal mechanism.

yes we need to have proper mechanism of its disposal as well

I would like to add here one thing, at preset we have LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamps, more efficient and cheaper then CFL then why we are going to invest this much on CFLs ? Another thing as Promila Sharma has added, that we have less knowledge about disposals of CFL as it contains Mercury vapours ?

Great move in order to save energy..However, I am afraid to know CFLs disposals as it contains Mercury vapours and we in India have no knowledge to deal with it once its life is over.

Gr8 News.......Hopefully, every Indian houses and offices will light only CFLs. This will be one of the greatest way to cope with the growing electricity demand. Bachat Lamp Yojana (BLY) will light India in a efficient and economic manner. Welcome to the World of CFLs.
