Ownership based and action oriented afforestation program

TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute)  with MSRTC (Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation), GoM (Government of Maharashtra) is implementing a uniques afforestation program. This initiative has been supported by MoEF (Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India).

The main objective of the project is to actively involve the officials of MSRTC to create awareness about the afforestation, key environmental issues and to ensure maximum survival rate of the afforestation done under the project by action oriented approaches. For the pilot project bus depots at Thane and Uran have been shortlisted. The project shall have various components including launch event, awareness programme, and capacity building for officials of MSRTC. The tree plantation drive shall be monitored by MSRTC officials to maximize the success rate of the programme. Officials posted at the respective bus depots shall undertake ownership of 4-5 saplings each and nurture the plants by watering and protecting the sapling until it is stabilized.

As a part of the project TERI is organizing an awareness programs for the children, family members of MSRTC officials on February 24, 2013 at Uran Depot, Uran.
