SUMMARY:Ownership based and action oriented afforestation program
DESCRIPTION:TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute)  with MSRTC (Ma
 harashtra State Road Transport Corporation), GoM (Government of Mahara
 shtra) is implementing a uniques afforestation program. This initiativ
 e has been supported by MoEF (Ministry of Environment and Forests, Gov
 ernment of India).\nThe main objective of the project is to actively i
 nvolve the officials of MSRTC to create awareness about the afforestat
 ion, key environmental issues and to ensure maximum survival rate of t
 he afforestation done under the project by action oriented approaches.
  For the pilot project bus depots at Thane and Uran have been shortlis
 ted. The project shall have various components including launch event,
  awareness programme, and capacity building for officials of MSRTC. Th
 e tree plantation drive shall be monitored by MSRTC officials to maxim
 ize the success rate of the programme. Officials posted at the respect
 ive bus depots shall undertake ownership of 4-5 saplings each and nurt
 ure the plants by watering and protecting the sapling until it is stab
 ilized.\nAs a part of the project TERI is organizing an awareness prog
 rams for the children, family members of MSRTC officials on February 2
