One of our learned members has an opinion that Er is abbreviation of Engineer. Does anyone on forum have information of this having published in any official channel? If not so this salutation cannot be used in correspndence to address an individual, officially.

Er. Ajaybhai: I like the abbreviation. Gives us status. Forget who invented it or whether it is authorised.

Good Morning
Well, I think youbshould clearly mention the name of so called learned member. Well i have noticed that you always talk about legal and legality. Is there something in legal word for you?
Anyways, you can find reference for use of salutations. Also to inform you that Mr. Ms. Miss. Mrs.t And Dr. Are very commonly used and accepted. Now he issue of Er. I don't know about legality of Er. And all other salutations I mentioned earlier, but as far as my memory is concerned i remember it that Er. Is used by certified professional engineers in many country. Also some other salutations are used in some countries. I think for legality you need to have one person from the law field. For now to have a small idea please check wiki.answer.com direct link is below.
