Hi all,

Contaminated  crude soil having Hydrocarbon can be treated using cowdung? Any one have experience of the same. If not , what are the available economic technologies available?

What should be the Oil and grease in PPM after bioremidation of contaminated soil interms of PPM or %.

Which are all the best grass or plants can grow on contaminated soil after bioremidiation.

Dear Mukka

Your suggestion is very good. No such work has yet done in detail.

Hi,

I had collected some literature. As per it, the bacterial growth will increase by additing the cowdung. This will degrade the hydro carbon present in the contaminated soil. However, ideally the fresh soil will not contain any traces of oil in the soil. my question is, what is the max PPM soil can have for plantation in PPM or % of oil.

If i consider 30 PPM of oil in the soil, will this soil can be used for plantation??

I do not think so

It's really working???

Can you please give me some literature to study it. Its quite Interesting.

Dear Mr Veer,

Bioremediation by only using Cowdung cannot be done. Yes I agree that there has been studies earlier of treating Oil sludge using cow dung or FYM and Soil but this requires a lot of area and time.

As communicated to you earlier, we have done this study and to complete in specific time frame, we require to mix with compost or do composting using a microbial solution which will help break the oil faster.Even Vermicomposting is also advisable as earthworms can help in removing heavy metals

30ppm of oil in soil is not a problem for plantation if you are planning in your green belt area.

best wishes

Dear veer

Bioremediation with cowdung is not possible in your case.

There are some evolving Ecotechnologies to treat organic mattaer and effluents.

Hi Veera,

It is not going to be an effective approach, since cowndung mainly consist of anaerobic and facultative strains. For effective oil remediation you will need specific robust aerobic bacterial strains. Further you need to maintain the right moisture and micro nutrient content to get the job well done.

cheers

Dear Veera,

I support the suggestion by Tejas. The use of cow dung has to be studied further. Bioremediation is the best option as my suggestion. 30 ppm of oil in soil is not a problem.

Dear all.

First of all thanks for your valuble comments. As you all aware, the bioremidiation with the Oil Zapper bacteria developed by M/s OTBL is littile expensive. For the same, I am planning to go with the cowdung. The results may not be well, but wanna experimnet by considering the other metrological factors.

Will share the results after six months and the process I had done.

Thank you very much. Request if you all can provide low cost nutrients, which may help  for bactrial growth.

No study done yet.Though i have tried it in an activated sludge plant for removal of ammonia phenol and cyanides from coke oven waste liquor.10ppm is the limit.
