With continued poverty we can not go for right development. And without development and continued poverty pollution is certain. The important factor has to be human and thrust has to be rural areas. Today all these factors are ignored leading to disaster after disaster. Amartya Sen, the Nobel Prize winning economist said it. His article based on his vision is attached. In India to give importance to these factors rural development is  important and the organization that can do the miracle is Khadi & Village Industries Commission ( KVIC) and my article on this role of KVIC is attached. Can we do that...we must achieve...let us take pledge...

Nice article Sir,

Until I read this i never knew that Khadi was potential and giving livelihood to so many people, the data you have presented is of 2001-03 and after a decade I was wondering what would be those numbers by now, as the awareness is dropping and the urban migrants are increasing. how are the developments now? What was your course of action? it could be nice if you can share with us.

Thanks & Regards,

Murali

We need to change according to potential...no one can beat Khadi in that case...I am now roping IIT, Kgp to develop Charkha...started initial application in Jungle Mahal...awaiting field response on health...this can ensure about Rs.200/- wage per day for spinners...

Very good discussion, sir for right development or we can say sustanaible development, it is necessary to control our population. government should concern on population control restrictly.

Dear Sir,

You have mentioned about the exports of Khadi, any idea about how promising its market in middle east. as I guess exporting the khadi will earn more for the spinners if we could arrange a direct trade deal/marketing system. pls spare your view on this too.

regards,

murali

While planning for export about a decade back we faced two major problem. 1...Quality Standard, 2...Infrastructure to take care quality. This has been solved up to certain extent with BIS standard already made and chain of laboratories installed besides availing facilities of Textile Ministry under MoU. The demand is there but varies from region to region. Demand in Europe is different and in Middle East it is different. In Middle East demand is more for finer fabrics like Muslin while silk Khadi all over the world. There are certain seasonal demand also according to festivals of ethnic groups. There is need to study. KVIC has been given status of Export Promotion Council so one window support. Please contact Khadi & Village Industries Commission, Mumbai for details. There is a separate wing to tackle in their Head Office at 3, Irla Road, Vile Parle (West), Mumbai.

Thanks a lot for that piece of information sir, I'll contact them :)

Welcome

The Khadi products need lot of refinement and quality packaging. Corporate like HLL was doing some work in Madhya Pradesh and the products are marketed under Vindhya brand. I had worked with them for the same and from my experience found that a lot of coordination is required for collection, production, packaging, training and wage distribution. Good work can be done as lot of potential is there with proper planning.

Please be specific...Khadi products or Village Industries products..Vindhya brand never dealt with Khadi products, in fact not permitted...my experience is refinement caused set back and fall of demand in respect of most of the Khadi products and some of the Village industries products..right term is appropriate quality...for example in respect of spun silk refinement will kill demand while it is needed for reeled silk...so to decide one need to know and plan...after retirement I am working in Jungle Mahal where inputs are given by IIT, Kgp and the unit is ISO accredited...we are now going global...
