I would like to get various treatment options for high TDS ground water (3000-4000 ppm).

hi Kezar...you may like to consider the use of RO (Reverse Osmosis) water treatment technology to treat high TDS - maximum permissible limit as per WHO water quality standards is 1.5 mg/ltr though. Cheers!
Thanks Pooja. No doubt, RO is a proven process but disposal of brine is serious issue and operation cost of RO for large treatment plant in industry is expensive.
@ Shah, The given TDS 3000-4000ppm is not a feed water with very....high TDS. Further in industrial RO system the CAPEX & OPEX is not very high. The only question is the system must be configured rightly based on the feed water qty & required permeate water qty & not a system made to suit the customers pocket. Further the reject water (brine) can either be partially fed alongwith the feed water or 2nd process RO can be used or you can use DI / EDI process & get DI water as bye product. When you go in for zero wastage concept plant in such case both OPEX & CAPEX will be high but they are economically feasible. Remember to an employ an experienced person otherwise the whole system would be a failure & finally blaming the process. In India, more % of projects executed are by half baked suppliers & operated also by half baked personals & hence failure. The reason again here is the customer either does it to hoodwink the authorities, lacks CAPEX or not able to meet the high salary demand & makes a compromise somewhere down the lane.
You may use simple ion exchange resins to reduce TDS.Such columns are available at a nominal cost of rs. 3500/ or A DM plant worth rs. 35,000/-.
Thanks Mr. Garg. You are right that appropriate design and experienced person are required to get best from RO type treatment.

Hi Sugandhashetye: Ion exchange resin can reduce hardness in a DM plant. But I think additional treatment will require for removal of TDS.

For TDS control we have three method only .RO,DM PLANT,DISTILLATION (EVAPORATOR).compare this three RO only low cost and get moderately less tds water.if we go DM plant reject management is very difficult.evaporator system high cost and required steam and scale removing jet pumps. So ro is best option

Mr Ravikumar: yes RO is better option. In DM plant, mostly hardness is removed. Distillation is economical in desalination cum power generation plant.
