Disaster Mitigation as a field of Study

There was interesting report in Times of India today:

 

As per VK Sharma, professor, disaster management and environment and convener, Training Advisory Committee, Indian Institute of Public Administration, the disaster mitigation is still in infancy stage in the country, though a number of universities and colleges are coming up with degree and diploma courses in disaster management and mitigation.

Saying that presently a total of 17 universities in the country are offering degree and diploma courses in disaster management, the expert who pioneered the framing of certificate course in disaster management at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) emphasises that mere offering of diplomas and degree programmes in disaster management and mitigation will not serve the purpose unless awareness and dissemination of knowledge is ensured at younger age, preferably from upper primary school level.

I totally agree with the views of Professor Sharma. Universities and academic/research institutions need to come forward and focus on developing capacity in the area of disaster prevention and mitigation by promoting as a specialisation in environmental studies at their institutes/department's curriculum at Masters level.

we study any subject for knowledge and earn money.but in the field of disaster,environment,there are less scope for job.It is fact in India.So i suggest first of all improve our policy regarding job related to disaster and environmental subject.This is not only my opinion,this is voice of young and talented degree holder of disaster and environment.
