About me: Sulagna Chattopadhyay is the President of LIGHTS Research Foundation an NGO established in 2003 in New Delhi. She is the Editor of G’nY since its inception in 2001. LIGHTS is an acronym of Learning in Geography, Humanities, Technology and Science. She has been nominated as the member of the working group for disaster management in the Planning Commission in 2011. She has edited 14 books and reports. She is the member of the Anti-Ragging Committee, Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU), New Delhi since 2009. She had studied in JNU and prior to that in Kolkata.

My Green Mission: Research and Publication of an environmental magazine in science-made-easy mode for 13 years. It has a total subscription of 6000 copies and readership of over 6 lakhs at present. A free online version is available for dissemination of knowledge to all.

The Indian Government has been promoting better hygiene amongst the user but has turned a blind eye towards disposal of the used sanitary napkins. The modern pads being primarily plastics, clog up drainage and incineration leads to dangerous air pollutants. Putting the used napkins in landfills adds toxins to the soil and groundwater.
