I think that , marine terminal will not provide any system to treat oil sludge, as they will select option of offsite disposal. They can become member of any CPCB/SPCB authorised recyclers , for disposal of this kind of wastes(on vessel calling).Else, many treatment methods are suggested by EPA for treatment of oily sludge. Please, check, MARPOL for literature on 5 categories of wastes generated at MArine terminals, including oily sludge.THanks

Oil Sludge can be treated in several ways at the terminal side. 1. If the oil content is

below 20%, use non-microbial bioremediation technique. The process will take app. 3 months to complete and will leave a garden grade soil which you can use for planting seedlings. 2. You can use a Bio-Mechanical combination system if the oil content in the sludge is more than 20% and recover the crude oil back from the sludge and you can send the recovered oil back to the storage tank for sale. The oil is good as or better than the original crude oil stored in the tank. 3. If the sludge is really waxy or high asphaltine content sludge, then use the Polycrack system which will convert the oily part of the sludge into light hydrocarbons such as kerosene and gasoline and the sediment and the un-combined  carbon portion into pet coke or bio char. Except for the bioremediation method, the other methods pay for themselves and you need not spend extra money for disposal as the product recovery value is equal to more than what you pay to the contractor to complete this job. you can contact me on raotr@hotmail.com for detailed information and I will provide you with links.

Could you elaborate more on the sludge characteristics?

Please see the attached file. Could you give me the composition and viscosity?
