Dear sir

Green belt is belt around the project site. Mangroves are normally grown luxuriantly  in intertidal zone near sea coast  area. if you develop as offsite area that will be considered as plantation or as CSR activity. If your project is greenfield project you have to allocate 33% of land for greenbelt and if it is brownfield project MOEF may ask to develop the plantation around  project out of project land to meet the norm of 33% of land GB

MOEF insisting/advising to develop a greenbelt around the project by planting three tier system of plants ranging between 2000 and 2500 plants depending on industry/area/region basiically of native plant species ( of the region)

Sir, Thanks.I woulld like to have your expert views further.Ours is Port (terminal)sector. And, MAngroves are mandatary , to maiantain. It is grown in premises. So, in this case, can we considered it in (as greenbelt)33% of land. ?What is significant to maniantain buffer of 50 or 100 meter to it?IS thre any guidlines for maniantaning buffer.?is there any direction, to which buffer should be provided?i think ours falls under green field.if we want to extend buffer from 50 meter to 100 meter, then is there any criteria for keeping buffer?Kindly, advise..THanks..

Dear DAA

kindly check with conditions of EC by MoEF and CFE and CFO of respective PCB. In that they must have specifically mentioned of plantation on shore line and greenbelt and also EIA report.check with EC and CFE& CFO

Insisting/advising and practically doing are the two different things. Most of the times, the advice is not followed and norms are flaunted.

Also, the list of trees reported and actually planted are also different. Understanding which one are exotic and native is also confusing, as the forest dept itself is planting exotic trees in their plantations and promoting them as fast growing, thinking that they are native.

An exotic tree found locally and thus become native???

Grasses cant not be considered as green belt, it should be trees. There are some particular trees for the relevant products, you can find that in agriculture book. For example - Banyan trees are really good to absorb carbon from the atmosphere.

The concept to develop green belt is for various reasons like Noise absorption method, to restrict air pollution so that air pollutants can not travel out of the company's premises, health reason etc.

As per the legal requirement Company should have 33% of green belt area of total plot area and 1000 trees per acre.

You can find more detail information on CPCB website.

Good luck.
