Environment as a profession is yet to catch up in India. It is a subsidiary position that companies want to avoid but unable, the same goes with safety. there is a an excellent answers and response in Quora. Environmental consultants are being pushed in paper pushers, even they want to do good work, we are not made to or need to. i'm sure most of them have experienced it.

There are professionals that have a combined application of being environmentalists as well as medical professionals. eg a lung specialist, an audiologist etc who deal with industrial pollutants wrt human health effects.Their training gives them the capabilities of measuring these pollutants and suggesting ways n means of reducing the levels getting into exposed humans.Such groups of environmentalists have a good potential .This area could also be called occupational health which overlaps a bit into the area of an industrial environmentalist.
