For instance,The Chandela water tanks are well known, since ancient times,in the Bundelkhand region[most glorious period is however a thsnd years back].Many of these tanks[known locally as talaabs]were built for drought or famine relief, which afflicted the region often[13 districts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, which are most prone].Jalayatra[by Nitya Jacob, resource person for water community of Solution Exchange]explores India`s traditional water managemnt systems[published in 2008,Penguin,India]

In 2002,Delhi High Court had ordered DDA to revive Hauz Kauz, and INTACH was appointed to implement the project,in the wake of a summer water crisis in the region

There are some reports about traditional water harvesting practices that can be put to use, even in rain scarce areas.--you may refer to the Special issue on Heritage of WATER Management in the fourth issue of the POWER OF CREATIVITY MAGAZINE,the Natural Science and Culture Section of UNESCO,NEW DELHI[newdelhi@unesco.org][vol.4,Dec 2009]and published by LB.Associates[pvt]ltd[info@lbassociates.com].The UNESCO edotorial team at new delhi has brought it out,and features my contribution too
