SUMMARY:One Week National Training Course on EcoDRR (Ecosystem Approac
 h to Disaster Risk Reduction) at New Delhi
DESCRIPTION:Environment and disasters are inextricably linked. Ecologi
 cal degradation is a key underlying driver of vulnerability and disast
 er risk. Environmental hazards like floods, drought, coastal storms, e
 rosion, landslides, pest attacks, forest fires, man-animal conflicts, 
 epidemics, and extreme weather events are known to aggravate due to th
 e impacts of climate-change. Environmental concerns are increasingly r
 ecognized in post-disaster response and sustainable recovery framework
 . University Grants Commission (UGC) considered incorporating disaster
  management modules in environmental studies/sciences, and most Centra
 l Universities have already envisaged a Centre for Disaster Management
  under their School of Environment & Earth Science Studies.\n \nUnder
 standing the relationships between environment and disaster risk reduc
 tion, towards integration of implementation framework at local and nat
 ional levels, is therefore,   key to sustainable development. United 
 Nations Environment Programme under the aegis of UN-PEDRR involving UN
 DP, IUCN, ADPC, UN-OCHA, etc. has recently developed a module on EcoDR
 R (involving NIDM) and piloted first in Sri Lanka (May 2011) and then 
 in New Delhi (Dec. 2011).\n \n2.                  NID
 M is organizing a One Week Training Course on “Ecosystem Approach to
  Disaster Risk Reduction (EcoDRR)” during 8-12 April, 2013 at NIDM, 
 New Delhi. Under this programme issues like ecosystem services, liveli
 hood, role of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), environmental law
 s, and policies in relation with disaster risk management will be disc
 ussed.\n \n3.                  Nominations of up to t
 wo senior/middle level professor(s)/official from the environmental sc
 iences/natural resources/agriculture faculty and Academic Staff Colleg
 e of a Central/State/Deemed University, for attending this programme s
 hall be accepted. There is no course fee for nominated delegates and a
  Certificate of Successful completion shall be provided. Travel expens
 es shall be borne by the nominating organisation whereas the boarding 
 and lodging expenses shall be borne by NIDM.  The nominations may be
