Chemical Industry is inherently prone to hazards. Emergencies can occur during the manufacture, handling, storage and transportation. In India, there are 1861 Major Accident Hazard (MAH) units spread across 298 district in 28 States and UTs. As per MSIHC Rules, 1989 and the Disaster Management Act 2005, the District Collector/Magistrate is responsible for preparation of Off-site Emergency Plan, Site clearance and also the District Disaster Management Plan. At present most of District Disaster Management Plans are prepared without consideration of Chemical Risks. Therefore, it is important to update and appraise the officials of the district authorities, line Departments, state and district level Disaster Management Authorities on various aspects of Chemical (Industrial) Disaster Management.
Recognizing the need of capacity building of the officials, National Institute of Disaster Management and Multi-disciplinary Centre on Safety, Health & Environment (MDC-SHE), Govt. of Orissa Institute is organizing a four days National level training programme on “Chemical (Industrial) Disaster Management at MDC-SHE, Bhubaneswar during 8-11 July 2014. There is No Course Fee for the Government/PSU officials and /state training institute's faculty members nominated by Central/State Government.
