Building Climate resilient cities: responding to emerging water crisis

Urban areas in India are facing severe water crisis. An increase in urban population by 32% since 2001, has posed increasing stress on the existing water supply and distribution infrastructure. In addition to this, Climate change impacts are supposed to be further aggravating the crisis, in terms of temporal distribution of water availability. In such a scenario, integrated efforts are required to build the resilience of citizens and the cities, to changing climate and associated risks. In fact, a radical reform in our attitude towards water management has become a necessity.

In purview of this, a special event is being organized collaboratively by TERI and Monash University, Australia on 'Building climate resilient cities: responding to the emerging water crisis' on 30th January 2013 at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi during Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) 2013. The aim of the workshop is to identify the issues and challenges for water crisis existing in urban areas and outline the strategies needed to make the Indian cities resilient to climate change impacts.
