Curriculum for Environment Awareness Program for High School

Dear Friends,

We are planning to take up in the next academic year an “Environment Awareness Program” for schools (ISCE & SSLC) in and around Bangalore.  I would need your help if you could point me to a readymade curriculum that can be used.  In case you know of anyone please do let me know.   Much appreciated.  DP Daniel

Very good idea to have Environmental Awareness program for schools.Better to take up local issues and cases if centered around Bangalore only.Do contact if any kind of assistance needed as I have been teaching the essential course on Environmental Studies since last eight years.

I think Centre for Environment Education had developed interesting modules as well as education materials for various standards. You can contact their head office at Ahmedabad or regional office, I guess in Bangalore, itself.

info on natural hazards and technological/chemical accidents risk and latest issues like nuclear/radiological risks (e.g. Mayapuri case), Fukushima case, Indian Ocean Tsunami, Kosi flood, dam break, climate change etc. may be included. Some knowledge on disaster management system shall be useful.

I would like to work for this and provide you a curriculum. I have already been working on this topic in my professional domains. Hence it would be easy for me to design one for High School. Please let me know if you would be interested.

Please do not do a 'cut and paste' job!! Your idea is excellent and we would love to support the same - but lack the time. Suggestions would be:

1. The course should be in keeping with the topics discussed in Schools as part of their EVS subject.

2. The course MUST be interactive and fun learning.

3. There should be lot of practical demos given that could also lend support to the School itself becoming a Green.

4. Till the Schools walk the talk by becoming green - nothing much shall be achieved.

Regards,

Sanjay

Dear Friends, I would add that Forestry (role and need for maintianing greenary thru afforestaiton and reforestaiton), Informaiton & Communication,  Glaciology, and also social and cultural systems would be useful to add. Also do include Role of Media. best
