Curriculum for Environment Awareness Program for High School

Dear Friends,

We are planning to take up in the next academic year an “Environment Awareness Program” for schools (ISCE & SSLC) in and around Bangalore.  I would need your help if you could point me to a readymade curriculum that can be used.  In case you know of anyone please do let me know.   Much appreciated.  DP Daniel

Dear Sir

I am Dr. Maniprakash Aravelli from Andhra Pradesh. I am sorry for this late reply, but I would wish to tell you that Environmental curriculum cannot be decided by a single individual or a group. May be you need to give the essence of the Environment through several concepts. With the kind of experience I have with the school children across the state of Andhra Pradesh, I would like to suggest you one thing that 'The subject/concept related to environment should be made interesting for the listener'. Then only they will listen. Many of the friends here gave information about prestigious institutions acorss the country which can give you curriculum, but they cannot come down to give the concept to the children so easily. I would like to assure you that I can help in this task. I am a Ph.D in Environmental sciences with air pollution and it's impact on health of road side vendors as my research topic. But I am quiet interested in giving the factual information that has been hidden in our traditions and culture which is pure science to be precise pure Environmentalism. So, if you happen to take a group opinion please drop me a mail, where I can give some of the concepts which are of interest for the kids sir.

Thank you very much for this opportunity.

With warm regards

Dear Mr. Daniel,

Greetings from GreenBandhu..!

We are very happy to know what you are thinking to do in Bangalore. It will surely and certainly bring a change in the minds, hearts and subsequently lives of the children..and go on to change our cities and nation in how we all need to respect our environment and mother of all - our earth. The children are the seeds of a greener tomorrow. We must nurture them in a nature-friendly manner.

Environment is a vast subject. We have been working with several schools in Delhi, Gurgaon, Chennai, Hyderabad and few other cities on importance of proper solid-waste management. Our program has gone through generations of change and through great effort and good results have been accepted by various environment departments such as the Dept. of Environment Delhi Govt., Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and some reputed institutions like TERI, CSE, etc.

We have blend theory with best practices, these practices or practical knowledge are being imparted through innovative solutions and tools that we have designed and developed or adopted. We have structured the program in time-bound, hands-on, discussion-based, audio-visual based under the guidance of a mentor or teacher.

We will like to share few pictures and Youtube videos with you:

Sir, we work with childrens and youth in schools and colleges for developing curriculum on environment, climate change and disaster management. You can look into UNEP and UNFCCC for ready made materials. However, would be glad to be a part of the process. We have conducted waste management workshops in Delhi, Gwalior and other cities. Our organisation is called the Indian Youth Climate Network (www.iycn.in)

Dear Mr. Daniel,

Besides Centre for Environment Education, three other organisations that could come handy in helping you in developing such curricula i.e. Bharti Vidyapeeth Institute of Environment Education and Research, Pune, CP Ramaswamy Iyer Foundation in Chennai and Uttarakhand Seva Nidhi in Almora. They have been engaged in design and development of such curricula for the formal EE sector for a long time now, hence should be some help to you.

Thanks and regards,

Pranab
