Am I eligible to work as a teaching faculty for my qualification?

Dear Friends and Well-wishers!

Greetings to you!

I have the following qualifications: 

1) B.Sc Microbiology (2004)

2) M.Sc Environmental Sciences (2006)

3) M.Tech Environmental Engg (2010)

I have worked as a Science Educator for 2 years and as a Researcher for 5 months. I have also completed the IRCA Approved Training Course for EMS as per ISO 14001:2004. 

My question is this: Am I eligible to apply as a faculty of Environmental Studies in any of the Science and Engineering colleges? My preferred job location is Pune. I checked out the following website for AICTE norms http://www.aicte-india.org/downloads/final_approval_process_241210.pdf

Page 106 gives the Faculty Cadre and Qualifications (Degree & Post Graduate) as per the AICTE norms. Please note that the qualifications for applying to the post of Assistant Professor in Engineering/Technology is BE / B Tech and ME / M Tech in relevant subject with First Class or equivalent either in BE / B Tech or ME / M Tech. Does this mean that I am eligible? The reason for my confusion is that my applications for a Lecturer's position in the AICTE-approved colleges are rejected on the grounds that I am not eligible as I don't have BE/BTech. 

I have always wanted to have a career in teaching. I would like the 2 years that I have invested in teaching be fruitful and augment my career. Kindly help me to clarify my present situation.

Dear Nomita,
Definitely you are eligible for Lecture in Engineering College to teach B.Tech. In many Engineering college you can teach M.Tech. also. You have sound qualification to work as Lecturer in Engineering college. So don't worry. Apply for it any you in short span of time, you will definitely get a good job in your hand.
Try for UGC NET (Environmental Science) June 2012 as from this time the whole UGC NET poaper is of objective type. So keep on studying for UGC NET.

Firstly i would like to know for which class u r trying ? wheather B.Tech. Env. Engineering or Env. studies as a paper which is mandatory for all B.Tech. students.

If u are trying for faculty in B.Tech. Env. Engg. definitely college will not entertain your profile because u do not have any foundation background in engineering,Colleges generally prefer the Engg. Graduate & PG faculty for this stream, but you are 100% eligible for Env. Studies paper which are very introductory in nature. I have a several friends who is PG & P.hd. in Env. Science & are teaching in various Engg. colleges.

Dear Nomita,

Technically speaking,you may not be eligible for Faculty in Engineering Colleges.

1.First option : As entry to Engg colleges require M.Phil with NET/SLET or Ph.D if you are going to teach Physics /Chemistry/ Maths /Environmental Science for B.E/B.Tech Ist year Students.

2.Second option : To be a full time faculty in any engineering department for teaching 2nd,3rd,4th Year students requires a Bachelor degree in Engineering B.E/B.Tech & M.E/M.Tech.

3.Third option.U try to appear for GATE in Life Science paper or Qualify CSIR NET to do full time research in Inter disciplinary program in Energy and Environment or join SRF/JRF in funded projects and complete your Ph.D so that u are Qualified to become a faculty in Science institutions as well as some Interdisciplinary engineering department like Energy,Biotech etc..

4.and also there is no lecturer post as per AICTE/UGC regulations,directly one will be appointed as Assistant Professors

Hello Nomita,

After going through your complete message I would say that YES you are completely eligible to be a faculty in Engineering colleges. You have good qualification and also experience. Lecturer is the basic and fundamental post in any engineering college. As far as I know, in Andhra Pradesh, you are pretty much qualified to be a lecturer in Environmental Sci. Now that every college has implemented Env Sci as a subject, atleast in AP, there is dearth of lecturers like you. If you like to expand your job options, then I would suggest that you gain experience in any AP college and then apply as Asst Proffessor in Pune. As I am not aware of AICTE norms in Engg colleges for Maharastra so, I am unable to talk confidently about your career option in Pune. I hope I helped you.
