Working under Dr.S.W.A Naqvi (Chief Scientist ‘H’) in the SIBER (Sustained Indian Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Research) project entitled ‘Long term monitoring of oceanographic, biogeochemical and ecological processes in the North Indian Ocean through establishment of open-ocean time series stations in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal’

Enumeration of Total Bacteria and Heteronanoflagellates by Epifluorescent
microscope using DAPI/Proflavin. Bacteria and Picoplankton enumeration by
Flow cytometer (FACS Calibur) and Estimation of chlorophyll content by
Fluorometry. Preparation and observation of slides for SEM.
Also study of bacterial community structure by initialization of CARD-FISH
(Fluorescent in situ hybridization) and carrying out DNA and RNA filtration
for their analysis.
The research work also includes participation on Scientific expeditions and
monthly field trips in open oceans, estuaries, fresh water systems

Technical skills and competences
 Handling BD FACS Calibure Flow cytometer
 Nanodrop, Agarose gel electrophoresis, Paper, Thin Layer & Column Chromatography, DNA extraction
 Good command on Grapher and Surfer software’s
 Microscopy (Brightfield, Epifluorescent)
 Handling common laboratory instruments such as spectrophotometer, Spectrofluorimeter, Fluorometer, pH meter etc
 Basic knowledge in handling HPLC (for phytoplankton pigments)
 PCR, Genomic DNA and Plasmid DNA isolation, Enzyme assays
