Vacancy for Research Associate/Intern/Volunteer at the Institute for Human Development, Eastern Regional Centre, Ranchi Have you ever wondered why such a large proportion of the country is affected by, what is often called Naxalism or Left Wing Extremism? What is the reason for the evolution of the 'Red Corridor' in India? What is the relationship of Tribals in India with India's Development? How do they interpret and narrate India's Growth Story? The Institute for Human Development is engaged in a study entitled 'Development and Tribals in India' . The study is aimed at understanding the major issues confronting tribals in India, the reasons for their deprivation and the policy options to ameliorate their condition. The study is comprised of 8 sub projects which are:- 1. Development, Disparity and Livelihoods. 2. Labour Markets, Employment and Migration 3. Health and Nutrition 4. Education and Skill Development 5. Land, Forest and Natural Resources 6. Governance and Institutions 7. Women in Tribal Society 8. People`s Unrest and Militant Movement in Tribal Areas The institute is thus looking for a passionate researcher to join the team working primarily on the sub-project on People's Unrest and Militant Movements in Tribal Areas, but also on other related issues. Output: The output would be a detailed report on Development and Tribals in India which would be published in the form of a book Eligibility: Good academic reading and writing skills and an analytical mind which is able to go through literature, comprehend issues, discuss them and express them lucidly. The researcher would ideally be passionate about issues of Tribals, natural resources and governance. An interest in reading widely and writing on these subjects would be essential. Keenness to participate in field work under tough physical conditions in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) would be a huge plus. Data Handling and Analysis skills would also be useful in other components of the study and in other projects which the researcher might wish to engage in, What to Expect: A friendly, informal and supportive work environment at the Institute's Centre in Ranchi, Jharkhand; an excellent set of well known senior academicians to guide the researcher and help her/him learn and develop; an honorarium based on skill and experience; a six month contract initially which could be renewed for future work on other projects.
