Sustainable Development and Governance:  Building Commerce and Communities

11^th - 13^th December 2012

Sustainable development involves a complex and intricate relationship between the environment, commerce and communities. The long-term impact of past industrialization, exploitation and environmental damage cannot be wished away. It is only right that development in this new century be even more conscious of its long-term impact. The problems are complex especially in the fields of Water, Energy and Waste Management. Our common future can only be achieved with a better understanding of these complex problem and changes required in people and management practices.

 

Joining hands with Deakin University (Australia) and supported by UN Global Compact and The Sustain Group, Australia, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham organizes a three-day International conference on Sustainable Development and Governance between Dec 11 and Dec 13, 2012. Many leading corporate houses like, Infosys, Tata & Sons, Biocon, Adithya Birla group, SKF support us in this effort with their time and interest. Former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will be with us for the closing day of the conference.

The conference provides a forum for stimulating debate and exchange of ideas by exploring the latest developments in the management and governance of sustainable development from a variety of perspectives including environmental sustainability, natural resource management (water, energy, and waste), social innovation and entrepreneurship, corporate governance, and social investment. It is a space where researchers, policy makers, funders, corporate and the non-governmental organizations working in the field can meet, exchange ideas and learn from each other’s knowledge and experiences.

First day would focus on workshop for academics and practitioners by expert resources from Australia and India on research on sustainability & sustainable practice. Second day will have parallel sessions and plenary session on academic research papers. On third day an impressive list of case studies by corporate and NGOs and talks by eminent experts are what this conference offers to you.
