I request advice on STP. If SPCB grants the consent to operate STP of 400 M3/day, then is it necessary to install single STP of 400 m3/day? OR can we install two or three STP (packaged)with cumulative capacity of 400 m3/day, if the area of plant is large and scattered.?
Is there any non compliance, if the industrial Plant has 3 STPs of total "consented capacity" instead of single STP?
Decentralized system is required , when the area is large and require to cater to all parts of plant.
Thanks in advance..

well while consent to establish would be on the basis of request / proposed capacity and should comply with consent to operate on commissioning.....as far as establishing many decentralized units across the property it would be..... economical to set up one for the total envisaged capacity whereby only connecting to the main plant would be far cheaper....you could install a plant based on technology which could handle and treat from a minimum to higher capacity as and when required ....modern technology enables plants to be operated on need base with capacity options........decentralized plant all over the property could pose problems of maintenance, monitoring manpower etc..

Why not try a different method of treatment
without mechanical aeration/treatment plant
if the treated water can conform to the standard
parameters laid down by PCBs. For more details,

Thanks to all..teh area is very large and having problem in pipenetworking, so decentrilised package plant is preferred..is there any technolgy /option available for such case?meeting with norms is not problem, but coverage is major concern.
As far as consent to operate for STP is concern, the wastewater generated from the project should not be more than 400 m3/day at any point during operation phase as specified in consent letter.
There is no restriction by SPCB on number of STP module you (project) have to install at project site to treat the wastewater of 400 KLD. However, the outlet parameters of effluent from all the STP should be within the norms.
Decentralized system is preferred where area is large as this will minimize the sewerage diameter, depth of excavation and pumping cost while distribution of treated recycled water within the project premises.
The location of STP should be such that it does not create any nuisance to near by resident.
Hope this clarifies your queries.

While applying for consent to establish, what was given by u has to be followed. However,u can revised it on informing the SPCB. More important is meeting the stds

I think that the SPCB is concerned about satisfactory treatment of entire effluent. Two things are important in this connection. First, that the treatment should be adequate and secondly, it should be reliable. In a decentralised treatment system, it is easier to provide an appropriate treatment for the effluent at each site, since the effluent is likely to differ from site to site in the case of a large industrial establishment. However, reliability may be compromised in case there are several treatment units any one of which may develop a problem. The probability of failure may increase with the number of such units. In a single treatment plant, it is easier to ensure reliability.
1. The CTE is generally issued after reviewing the details given by you including the total capacity for a particular type of technology, at a particular site including disposal point.
2. In that application, details of the units/ sizes/ modules etc need to be mentioned. Changes may be made with permission from the PCB provided outlet quantity does not increase, quality meets standards, site and disposal point is not changed.
3. In case of any change in these fixed items, then may be fresh CTE or revision etc may be required.
4. The quantity mentioned seems to be small and hence modules may not be required.
5. The recent ruling by NGT on STPs for environmental clearance may be applicable. Please confirm with the local PCB.
The Seewage can be treated in the drains itself by use probotics and enzymes.
This kind of work has been already carried out Indore. for the drain length of 12 kms. in AB road. For details please contact Dr. S K Jain, his number is 09302105645.
