Steel making is one of the highly energy and emission intensive process. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) researchers recently announced the discovery of a pollution free method of steel making. CSE investigates how green the process is. Analysis shows the process is not quite as CO2 emission free as claimed. For more:

most of the research shows co2 is not the polluted gas....this gas only to create warming or responsible for global warming. but why the problem related to co2 emission. Please clear it.

Superb...we must adopt

Thanks Mr. Om for your interest.

Seems you don't believe CO2 a problem. As per you concern, we may need to redefine our concept of CO2 as pollutant. My friend, you have 20.9% Oxygen in your environment and only 0.03% CO2, still a minor increase in CO2 has made the world in tears. The problem is CO2 accumulation in the atmosphere.

Steel sector is the second largest energy consuming and CO2 emitting industry after thermal power sector. And both the coal, as an energy source, and CO2 , as air pollutants, are the biggest concern for this sector. Other air pollutants released in the process viz. PM, oxides of Nitrogen and Sulphur, VOCs etc. can be captured using a range of available pollution control equipment. But steps taken for CO2 emission reduction, control and capture, such as using clean coal technology, natural gas steel making, COREX process, carbon sequestration etc have not been successful so far. The reason behind is the  economical and technological in-feasibility.

A range of concerns of CO2 is there with steel sector, but writing all of them here is difficult. I am sharing my contacts below.

Thanks for your kind interest in my quests. i was read a article publish in "Down To Earth" which showed a study related to the Carbon sequestration, into this article the rate or carbon emission is 7 times lower in India then other Western countries. also India does not have Very effective Coal Cleaning technology.

Are you please give me basic ideas how much Steel industry release % of carbon.

Thanks

Om Krishna
