Sir, leachate can be managed by plantation in various compositions, using lost fo climbers, bushes like impomoe which is already seen in the picture. But it can be improoved. A good and dense composition of plants can reduce the leachate problem to a surprsing level...

To combate with leachate problem, one should try phytoremediation plants/trees like Acacia sps. is the best to absord heavy metals from lands and many more.

easy said than done. The problem of fly ash from thermal power stations has resulted in major interventions at the govt level.  The National Fly Ash Mission has attempted to use fly ash in different applications that could possibly immobilize the heavy metals. One could also fall back on reserch done in the field of liquid liquid extraction for recovery of the heavy metals.

However as of day, besides using plantation, the only other way to immobolize the metals is to use this substrate at alternate places.

Dumping areas should be lined by adequate liner on the basis of hydrological & geotechnical status of the area.Now days it has been made compulsory by MoEF during EC appraisal of thermal power plants.
