How far aquaculture compensate the fishery losses

Aquaculture an artificial cultivation of fish under controlled condition gives high yields in small volumes of water. on the other hand destroy mangroves on the coast, requires special feed and antibiotics, produces toxic effluents and contaminate water sources. The fish become so vulnerable to diseases that the tanks become contaminated and have to be abandoned after 5 years or so.

  

Lured by quick and high returns, companies and individuals are rushed into aquaculture business yesterday and even today also the scenario has not changed.

 

where does this lead to. will it lead to mass distruction of the fisheries or lead to such diseases which are uncurable due to indiscriminate use of antibiotics on these  fishes.

It is possible to develop sustainable aquaculture practices.

 

We are promoting the use of Diatom Algae to provide feed to fish and keep the water clean and fish healthy.

 

Diatoms are the best food for fish and they give huge amounts of oxygen.

 

If diatoms are boosted in coastal waters and oceans natural fisheries too can be restored.

Mr. Raghava, I do not know from where you go this information about the non-sustainable practices of aquaculture. You need to re-check your facts. No doubt some farmers always try and adopt short cuts and end up paying heavily for it through high mortality and consequent losses. The same does not hold true for majority of farmers. They do scientific farming. It does not damage the environment in any way. Some Companies did take to prawn farming the beginning where there was massive damage to the environment. This was more than 25 years ago! Supreme Court has clamped down on the pollution and now it has been controlled to a great extent.
