Description:

EHS+ Center at Symbiosis Institute of International Business is seeking an experienced Assistant Technical Director (ATD) to oversee the operations, design, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive Energy, Environment, Health and Safety training programs at a growing network of EHS+ Centers across India and Asia. The ATD will oversee day-to-day operations of the EHS+ Center in Pune, and ensure donor deliverables and the Center training and revenue targets are achieved. The ATD will also work with EHS+ Network Technical Director and the ISC staff in India to design, develop and standardize a full range of basic to advanced level EHS courses offered to factory managers across industries; revise and adapt the existing curriculum to the Indian context and ensure that it meets the needs of Center clients and addresses current trends of the industries; oversee the certification of Center trainers and ensure they are qualified to deliver the EHS+ Center curriculum; and implement an evaluation and continuous improvement program for training delivery. S/he will participate in marketing EHS+ Center services to potential clients in Pune and other industrial regions. The ATD will work with technical partners and experts to coordinate development of additional curriculum in the areas of energy and carbon management.

Located in Pune, Maharashtra, the India EHS+ Center is housed within Symbiosis International University’s renowned Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), and is managed by the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) in partnership with SIIB. The Center offers world class trainings on various EHS topics that address everything from the basic fundamentals of EHS to niche topics specific to particular industries. See current course listings here. The courses taught at the India EHS+ Center are developed by local experts. They include courses adapted from the successful training materials developed by ISC’s EHS+ Network, as well as custom courses developed in partnership with local companies and global brands. All courses are tailored to meet the needs of Indian factories and industries. Launched on August 26, 2016 this EHS+ Center is the fourth developed by ISC, following the successful launch of two Centers in China, and one in Bangladesh. The Centers together make up the EHS+ Network, a multi-country partnership designed to support advancement in the EHS profession.

Responsibilities:

1. Program implementation, oversight and support 
• Leads the development of EHS training courses in consultation with EHS+ Center team comprising ISC, SIIB and industry experts.
• Establishes clear standards and guidelines for EHS Center course content and delivery, and mechanisms for regular review and evaluation in consultation with ISC’s Monitoring and Evaluation staff.
• Delivers EHS training courses and training of trainers as needed.
• Designs and institutes a system for continuous improvement of the Center’s EHS curriculum in response to client needs, industry trends, and national/global standards.
• Participates in the development of energy and carbon management courses with Center team and industry experts.
• Provides lead support to EHS+ Center advisory committee to convene quarterly meetings to review and vet curriculum and gain market intelligence to develop marketing strategies. The EHS+ Center advisory committee is comprised of representatives of private sector donors and EHS/sustainability practitioners representing different brands/industries.
• Helps to establish and transfer training courses, best practices, and standards to new Centers/satellite centers, other initiatives/programs of ISC in India.
• Assists program staff in identifying and addressing the organizational capacity needs of EHS+ Center partners.
• Supports the establishment of professional networking platforms such as a web portal for EHS professionals, and leads peer-to-peer learning initiatives.
• Participates in the development and implementation of a measurement and evaluation program to assess the results and impacts of EHS+ Center activities.
• Actively markets and promotes Center courses and services to prospective clients, and generates new business opportunities.

2. Communication and Representation
• Ensures monitoring and evaluation activities and reporting meet ISC’s standards, and are completed on schedule.
• Contributes to program reports.
• Represents the EHS+ Center program to colleagues, external partners, government officials, donors, beneficiaries, and at conferences and other outreach opportunities.
• Regularly apprises project leaders and communications staff of program activities and accomplishments.
• Communicates program activities, challenges and accomplishments to the Country Director of ISC and Director and Deputy Director of SIIB.

3. Relationship to Team Members
• Reports to Deputy Director of SIIB on day-to-day affairs of EHS+ Center and to Country Director of ISC on quarterly basis.
• Supervise EHS+ Center Program Coordinator.
• Coordinates with and provides support to the Communications Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, and other key ISC program staff.
• Communicates as needed with ISC Headquarters leadership.

4. Other 
• Works closely with the EHS+ Center Program Manager to coordinate curriculum and organizational capacity building work with Center partners.
• Manages or assists with the implementation of other EHS and EE training programs implemented by ISC, as needed.

Qualifications:

• An advanced degree in environmental science/engineering, industrial/occupational health and safety, engineering or other related degree.
• 10+ years experience managing energy, carbon, and/or environment, health and safety related issues with multinational corporations and/or in Indian factories.
• Experience in the theory and practice of training, professional and continuing education, and training curriculum development.
• Project management skills with experience managing multiple projects and/or working for an international organization in India.
• A track record that demonstrates energy and creativity, and the ability to successfully prioritize and manage competing priorities.
• Demonstrated success in project planning, program monitoring, report writing, and identifying and procuring technical assistance.
• Strong interpersonal skills and mentoring skills to work effectively with partners/clients.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.
• Fluency in English and Hindi required; strong oral and written communication skills required.
