CSR....?

Few areas - Control of solid waste floating in lakes and rivers, Hyacinth control, circulation, filtration and oxygenation of lake waters. We can provide the wherewithal in these areas if you drop an email to sekhar@alphamers.com

Rain water harvesting can be done by collecting rain water in a pond, may be small pond which in turn can be used as drinking water, irrigation and multiple uses for industrial use like dust suppression system by water spraying on road,on conveyor dust emission points, internal uses in  industries.Water harvesting system is now a days very popular in mines and mineral based industries and mostly can be used in adopted near by villages in drinking, irrigation and water spraying on road to control dust emission in the localities.

In most of the tourist places, rain water harvesting system plays a vital role as a part of Eco-tourism,i.e.to collect rain water in a specified area near by the tourist place to cater boating facilities for tourist by doing necessary purification of rain water. The same water also can be used separately bathing of the tourists.

I would suggest Cleaning of Lakes.

Probably doing CSR activities from niche ideas would be better.

Also, giving away solar cookers and lights to people would also help.

Construction of water shed, good irrigation farming practices in rural areas. Provide importance on less use of chemical fertilizers and activities like abolishing of invaded species and restoring it with native species in the rural areas.

Totally agreed with Nisha.

Apart from that mangrove plantation and conservation might be done if the area is considered as coastal.

As a short term project which is meant for a single day activity, you could definitely go for a cleanliness -cum-awareness drive regarding the harmful effects of polythene on aquatic organisms and in case you have planned a sustained source of funding as CSR, you could plan a pilot scale project of segregation and recycling of wastes.

I would suggest to create awareness about harmful effect of cfl bulb disposal.

This could be done as a single activity in many places

Thanks to all for responses. also, kindly suggest, if any project of CPCB or MoEF&CC on environment, and if we can fund them as part of CSR. e.e.national river monitoring plan, or any such research/projects/schemes run by Gov. on environment. are there any such progs., where we can fund as part of CSR?thanks in advances...

Hello,

I believe since you are from Ahmedabad, you should try and team up with GEER foundation in Gandhinagar or GEC or Climate Change Dept (Govt. of Gujarat). The place where I can help you is if you wish to have a long term CSR project which connects Climate Change, Rural Sustainable Development, Wasteland Restoration and Adaptation potential through extremely nature based innovative land development techniques all combined in one. Although this would be a long term thing, the results may be very helpful. This could be done through Gujarat University and can be a multi-research topic as well.

Best.

Darpan.

In my opinion reducing the carbon footprint would be the most rationale way of realizing this particular component of the CSR. Many members have suggested nice ways on this forum.

There are many ways, the following two may be considered,

  1. Providing alternative sources of livelihood to the communities which particularly reside close to the natural areas and thereby ensuring the security of the bio resources. There could be many ways to accomplish this task but as suggested in some previous comments it is better to go with the niche ways for example providing sewing machines, fishing nets (for sustainable harvesting) and other demand driven equipment. If you wish to make your initiative more sustainable it is better to partner with some organization where you can provide region specific livelihood Skill trainings to the villagers strictly based on the their willingness to ensure committed engagement in the livelihood activity.

  2. Providing solar equipment – it can reduce the pressure on fuel wood. In my opinion the sustainability of these activities depends upon the long term ownership of the equipment by the communities. Hence, care must be taken to identify needs and acceptance level and strategy to build ownership.

On a different note, The component of ‘Protection of Flora and Fauna’ which is mostly underrated by the organizations while designing their CSR strategy is closely related to the ‘Environment Component’. I can send a detailed proposal of the MP Tiger Foundation Society which may throw some light on this aspect. You may visit www.mptigerfoundation.org or mail on mandale_sumit@yahoo.com

Thanks Sumit. Have sent mail to u.Kindly, reply accordingly..
