A WEED IN PADDY FIELD...THANKUNI

[GOPI KANTA GHOSH]

This small shrub is a weed commonly found in paddy fields, low and water logged lands and fallow lands etc. Popular as Thankuni this plant is popular green leafy vegetable in Bengal. As weed it shares nutrients of paddy for which modern day agriculturists wants to remove with chemical weedisides. But they ignore the fact that this weed do not harm plants but prevents pest attack and do not influence our food chain. With modern plan of application of chemicals first weedicides then pesticides our food chain is poisoned so does that mean development means consuming poison? Can you give in some details about your work with full reference of your M.Sc. Project ?
